Can you book an Airbnb and have a wedding?
When it comes to booking an Airbnb for your big day, it’s important to reach out to the host and ensure they are happy for you to use the property as a wedding venue.
While some Airbnbs specifically cater to weddings, others are just swoon-worthy properties for regular getaways with lots of outdoor space that could, in a dream world, make a stunning wedding venue. Either way, you should contact the host and double-check they are happy for you to use their property for a wedding celebration before you make a booking.
How do I find an Airbnb to rent for my wedding?
When looking for an Airbnb to rent for your wedding, Thérèsa Jordan of Hummingbird Events tells us there are a few things to consider.
- Look at accessibility of the venue - You should always consider if the venue is physically accessible for those on your guest list who might have limited mobility, and double-check this with your host. You should also look into the local transport links. “Think about how easy it is to get there, if there’s plenty of parking, if it will be easy for taxis to find on the map, and if there is enough space for everything you need,” advises Thérèsa.
- Think about facilities for suppliers - Ask your host if your caterer or private chef will be able to use the kitchen to prep and serve your wedding meal, and also ensure your other suppliers – including florists – have a safe and secure space to leave their belongings. “You should ask if your suppliers can visit the Airbnb venue before the wedding day to see what they are working with,” adds Thérèsa. “It’s important to also consider deliveries as many items for weddings need to be delivered a few days before so ensure someone is around to sign for these.”
- Ask about restrictions - Make sure to check the restrictions list on your Airbnb listing as some properties have ‘quiet hours’ that could end your wedding guests’ fun earlier thank planned. Also, check with your host if there are restrictions with decorating the space to transform it into your dream wedding venue.
- Have a back-up plan - As with anything in life, always have a plan B, and when it comes to your wedding day, perhaps throw a plan C into the mix too. “If you hire an Airbnb to have the wedding in the gardens but it rains, could everything still take place inside?” Thérèsa questions. Make sure there is flexibility in the venue, and multiple places to move your celebrations to within the the property if anything goes wrong. Al fresco weddings are gorgeous, but not always practical.
- Hire a coordinator - Whether you’re having a wedding at a hotel or an Airbnb, it’s always worth booking a coordinator to take the pressure off. “You'll be able to relax in the build up knowing that everything is taken care of,” Thérèsa says. “Plus if anything unexpected comes up on the day, you won't need to worry about anything.”
How much does an Airbnb wedding venue cost?
Airbnb wedding venues will vary in price. While some Airbnb venues specifically cater to weddings (and these will be pricer), others are just beautiful country manors and mansions that allow parties and events.
Our edit of the best Airbnb wedding venues features properties that cost anywhere from £800 a night to nearly £5,000 a night. It’s also important to consider how many nights you’ll need the property for, and if it’s worth booking it for an extra two to three nights before and after the big day if you can so that you can prepare stress-free and clean up before the host returns.
