Drum roll, please. Charlotte Tilbury has entered the fragrance arena. And in true Tilbury style, she's not done it by halves. Instead of giving us one new spritz, she's launched six.
All of the new perfumes are powered by neuroscience, with each seeking to boost a specific emotion in its wearers via the scents, colours and energies of each bottle. The brand tapped up the International Fragrance Foundation's Scentcube algorithm, which measures the effect of certain scents on our mood to create a menu of notes that could trigger different feelings. Then, Charlotte tapped up the world's leading perfumers, including Anne Flipo (the nose behind YSL Libre, Paco Rabanne's Lady Million and Givenchy's L'Interdit), Dominique Ropion (who gave us Mugler's Alien) and Juliette Karagueuzoglou (a rising star who's worked with the like of Chloe, Armani and Lancome).
She channeled colour-theory and the power of crystals with specific gemstone shades chosen for each bottle, and referenced ancient fragrance traditions with a spire-like pyramid-shaped lids designed to act like orbs, attracting energy and raising vibrations.
The idea is that each perfume provides a portal to your chosen frequency and feeling, thanks to the transportive power of fragrance. The line-up includes More Sex (a seductive blend of musk and leather), Love Frequency (a love-inducing floral-woody blend), Joyphoria (an uplifting warm floral), Cosmic Power (an emboldening spicy amber) Magic Energy (a grounding woody citrus) and Calm Bliss (a serene aquatic floral).
Lucky for us, the GLAMOUR team got our hands on the Charlotte Tilbury scents early, before it launches on the Charlotte Tilbury app on 30th April, then online and in store from 2nd May, so we could sniff them and report back. Below we share our thoughts, and if you're still unsure which scent you'd like best, you can pick up the discovery set for £25.

Scent: More Sex (with notes of musk, sandalwood, leather)
I was immensely excited to be taking home a bottle of perfume that promised ‘More Sex’. The first whiff evoked instant lust with a strong, deep scent that had a borderline macho vibe and was oddly irresistible. Everyone around me turned into perfume fiends, slapping it on to their necks and wrists. It's like a confidence boost in a bottle. Whether it was the name playing mind games or some chemical scent magic, I swear I felt sexier. It initially gives off such a seductive, cool girl aroma that you just want to roll around in, to totally embody.
However, after dousing myself in this perfume perhaps a little too much, it became overpowering. The bold scent seemed to envelop my body rather than compliment it, making it a little heavy for everyday wear.
As for the big question: did it deliver on the promise of 'More Sex'? On day one, I strutted over to my boyfriend's house, oozing sex appeal... or so I thought. Turns out, he was clueless about my new scent. Despite feeling like seduction on legs, it didn't exactly translate to fireworks in the bedroom. So, lesson learned: Confidence? Check. Bedroom antics? Not so much.

Scent: Magic Energy (with notes of bergamot, jasmine and palo santo)
Magic Energy was easily my favourite scent of the six when I first met with Charlotte to discuss this top secret launch. The bright zingy green bergamot and myrtle oil top notes gave instant attraction, then a sparkling resonance came through with the sweet jasmine sambac, followed by the deepening layers of cashmere wood and Palo Santo. Plus let’s not pretend packaging doesn't count – I’m a sucker for all things green. It’s my favourite colour from clothes to interiors – and now scents it seems, and it’s definitely linked to the calming sense I feel when surrounded by the green of nature.
It's been a joy each morning to spritz on Magic Energy and feel that fragrant hit awakening the senses. The lingering green notes feel like a grounding moment to myself before the onslaught of the day starts. I found the scent slowly trailed out though as the day progressed, so it isn’t the ever-ready energiser to replace my coffee hit quite yet. If you want energising vibes all day long, I’d suggest using the mini spritz as a top up on the go.

Scent: Love Frequency (with notes of pink pepper, rose, patchouli)
Love Frequency dances between floral and musky – the smell reminds me of walking into a bright vintage boutique. Upon initial sniff it's a head-turner for sure, reeling you in, but as it melts throughout the day it has a refreshing lightness that lasts.
Initially I thought it would be better suited to an older audience, but it does have a modern twist that keeps you coming back. The fragrance is said to bathe you in the feeling of love and being loved – I found it to offer a more complex blend of scents that felt intriguing.
Overall, its super assertive and definitely a head-turner but can be overpowering on the wrong day.

Scent: Calm Bliss (with notes of neroli, lavandin and tonka bean)
When I spritzed this in the office, it was a real crowd-pleaser – everyone around me asked me what perfume I was wearing and signed off their approval. It's a gentle, soapy scent, that makes me think of bubbles – which might be thanks to subliminal messaging from the aqua blue bottle, or it could be to do with the “watery accord” blended into the scent. But, it also has a soft creaminess that, to me, conjured fluffy towels and clean laundry. Meanwhile, my desk buddies detected “ocean vibes” and a sporty beachside scent that offered up sea and suncream.
If the aim was to induce calm, this did deliver. It's a light, lilty, escapist scent that's tranquil and breezy. However, for such an approachable-smelling scent, the price-point is a lot less zen (£130 for 100ml), although the £20 travel sprays (10ml) offer a more affordable way in.

Scent: Joyphoria (with notes of coconut water, tuberose and ylang ylang)
As a perfume obsessive, I couldn't even put into words how excited I was when the new Charlotte Tilbury perfume landed on my desk. I opted for Joyphoria, which came in a beautiful rose gold bottle. I would definitely describe it as an uplifting scent, but not in a typical citrus-y way. It's a playful white floral fragrance that's just as fitting for a day in the office as it would be for a date night. I was also super impressed by the lasting power. In fact, I didn't really feel the need to top it up throughout the day and it still lingered on my skin 10 hours after the initial spritz. However, I'd say that I found it a tad too sweet for my liking, but that's just a personal preference as I don't usually tend to reach for similar scents. That said, I definitely see how this particular perfume could easily become a firm favourite for many.

Scent: Cosmic Power (with notes of black pepper, frankincense and amber)
You think you're the biggest Charlotte Tilbury fan? You haven't met me. The brand can do no wrong in my opinion, so, when news of their latest perfume launch sounded, I was front and centre for testing. Cosmic Power is a warm and spicy amber aroma that reminds me of something my mum used to wear in the ‘90s. It's said to be a "scent to unlock emotions", one which offers a portal of protection where you can set your intentions. While that still remains to be determined, the longevity of its silage certainly boosted my confidence throughout the day – people wouldn't stop asking me what I was wearing, which is always the best compliment.
