You can wave goodbye to minimalism. Hair is getting a big ol' highfalutin makeover going forward – and ‘Texan hair’ is leading the way.
We saw the trend blow up after Beyoncé chose to wear the style for her high-profile appearance at this weekend's Super Bowl (which coincided with her dropping two new songs, titled Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages, both with a decidedly country feel to them).
Her hairstylist, Neal Farinah, posted a pic of Bey's higher-than-heaven hair to his Instagram with the caption: “Super Bowl Texan hair @beyonce” before spilling that he used formulas from Beyoncé's much-anticipated new haircare brand, Cécred, to create the style. “My favourite products @cecred,” he wrote, giving us a first glimpse of the products and their packaging. It looks like we'll be getting a hair oil or serum from the Queen of the beyhive, and fittingly, the honey-coloured liquid appears to have a lid shaped like a honey dipper.

We should have known, ever since Bey made cowgirl hats the must-have accessory of her Renaissance tour, that she had something bigger up her sleeve. However, this isn't the first time we've seen a western influence infiltrate hair trends. Cowgirl copper has been blowing up for the past couple of seasons, and Miley Cyrus debuted her own XXXL voluminous hair moment at the Grammy's earlier in February (though she's a Nashville girl, of course).

What is Texan hair?
Texan hair taps into that southern aesthetic of big, bold, bouncy hair that's also a signature of states like Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. It has some serious country cowgirl energy and it's the antithesis of the super minimal hair looks that have dominated the last decade. It takes our renewed obsession with the ‘90s blowdry then takes it up a notch in terms of volume and back a way in terms of inspo, with a '70s and '80s influence coming through.
How to get Texan hair?
Top hair stylist, Sam McKnight, told us: “it’s all in the prep and finish and about getting volume in the hair. Its high gloss: think big '80s Dolly Parton, think Dallas.” Natural is not the aesthetic here. “It’s not about leaving your hair naturally, but instead putting in the effort with a great volume blow-dry," he says. “I recommend using a hot roller set or sleeping in a set of Velcro roller set to add height and volume overnight.” As for products, “try the Sam McKnight Cool Girl Foam before you blow dry and finish with Love Me Do Hair Oil for mirror like shine and a frizz free finish.”
How to wear Texan hair?
The key is to have some gravity-defying vertical lift at the root, as well as big, beautiful curls to offer some horizontal volume through the strands, too.
