21 of the best women's trouser suits that will never go out of style
Every time I want to look polished and put together, I reach for one of my favourite women's trouser suits. Whether I'm sitting at a show at London Fashion Week or bottomless brunching on the weekend with friends, there's something about pairing a power dressing blazer with matching wide leg trousers that takes your outfit – and mood – to a whole other level.
A trouser suit will also become the most versatile two-piece you'll ever own. Ideal for workwear, obvs, the best women's trouser suits work for wedding guest outfits, as well as after dark. Choose a tuxedo suit or bold colour if you're heading ‘out-out’.
Suits were still having a moment on SS24 catwalks with subtle updates that still feel timeless. Stella McCartney's aesthetic is all about sleek and effortless styles in pastel colours, with tailored pieces that give power dressing with a hint of romance. Meanwhile, 3.1 Phillip Lim is making a statement with clean cut waistcoats and we're obsessed, finished off with gold jewellery and contemporary sandals for outfit goals. And 16Arlington? They're bringing all the glam with luxurious fabrics and details that make us want to swap all our dresses for suits.
I think trouser suits look coolest when worn with trainers and a white t-shirt for a relaxed take, it's the mix of smart and sporty that does it for me. Although, if you prefer your tailoring with a side of unexpected heels (enter the wrong shoe theory) and a cami or bright coloured knit underneath, that's also a great call and of course a trouser suit and loafers is outfit gold for the office.
Where can I shop the best women’s trouser suits?
I can pin some of my most memorable moments to the women trouser suits I have worn, and plenty of excellent options can be found on the high street. Cos and & Other Stories are my go-to for suiting as they always have great tailoring options. Add their pink suit to the top of your wishlist for officewear that isn't boring and special occasion dressing.
But if you're looking to invest in your first trouser suit, a neutral shade would be a very solid starting point. It doesn't have to be black (although Arket's linen trouser suit with oversized jacket is a dream), grey, tan and ecru also work great as a base to style with the rest of your wardrobe. Ganni's grey suit, and Raey's khaki-green tux are great investment pieces and Marks & Spencer's wool blend pinstripe suit is a great choice for quality that won't break the bank.

If you still need convincing (and I know trouser suits often come with a bigger price tag than a dress) remember that you get three ways to wear them. As a suit of course, then both the blazer and trousers can be worn separately, and, from our edit below, even the waistcoats would work paired with jeans. According to my maths, that works out as far more versatile than even your most hard-working dress. Honestly, there is a trouser suit to suit every style.
